Adrienne Parker - Biography
Adie Parker began her art career as a designer in a Medical Advertising Agency after studying Graphic Art & Design in Natal SA. After moving to the UK in 1997, she worked briefly in a London Design Studio before choosing to become a professional artist and tutor. Teaching and demonstrating has allowed her to experiment with all mediums and really grow as an artist.
There are many artists who have inspired Adie: Pierneef, John Singer Sargent and Sorolla.
Adie grew up in a country saturated with light, colour, texture, sounds and smells. Where SA has ancient rock formations and landscapes, Europe’s cities and towns have a backdrop of architecture steeped in history that simply took her breath away and continue to inspire her creations. She feels compelled to record these silent giants that have observed the passing of time, and it is the juxtaposition of these old personalities and busy lives swirling around them, that have influenced her style and current themes.
Adie works with all media, but particularly enjoys working with mixed media (acrylics, acrylic inks, pastels and collage papers), giving her the flexibility to vary the combinations and push her boundaries. She is passionate about colour and movement. Her style is expressive, energetic and spontaneous. She constantly endeavours to engage the viewer and to draw them into another world.
